「皆様、本日はこのようなコロナ禍、緊急事態宣言の中、お集まりいただきまして誠にありがとうございます。また、オンラインでご参加いただいております皆様、どうもありがとうございます。
3年前の5月、世界のスーパースター、サッカー界のレジェンドのアンドレス イニエスタ選手がヴィッセル神戸に加わってくれました。その時、話したことは、単に選手として神戸、日本に来るのではなく、この新しい歴史を神戸を中心に日本、またアジアで起こしたいということで、そういった意図を持って、本当に世界から色々なオファーがあったと思うのですけれども、ヴィッセル神戸に参加してくれることになりました。
3年間の契約だったのですが、本日ヴィッセル神戸とイニエスタ選手は新たに2年間の契約延長に合意いたしましたことをここで発表させていただきたいと思っております。この発表は、単なる2年間の契約延長ということ以上に、ヴィッセル神戸がアジアNo.1クラブになっていくというプロジェクトにイニエスタ選手が継続的に参加をし、そして引っ張っていくという意味合いがあるとご理解していただきたいと思っております。本当に、先ほど世界のレジェンドという話をさせていただきましたけれども、当然FCバルセロナ、またスペイン代表で本当に数えきれないほどの栄光を手にして、プレーだけではなく、所謂スポーツ選手、あるいは人間としてのリスペクトを世界中から集めているイニエスタが、継続的に日本でプレーをしてくれるというのは、本当に日本のサッカー界にとっても非常に大きなことなのではないかなと思います。特に天皇杯の優勝、そして残念ながらベスト4に終わりましたがAFCアジアチャンピオンズリーグでアジアのベスト4までいきました。その中で、大きな負傷を負いながらクラブのためにプレーをしてくれた姿に私も感動をしました。本当に彼のリーダーシップ、そして人間性を表しているのではないかなと思います。
そして、今回は新型コロナでヴィッセル神戸だけではなく、様々なクラブが経済的にも大変厳しい状況にあります。その中で、本当にイニエスタらしいなと思うのですけれども、経済面においてもかなり歩み寄りをしていただいたということで、本当に感謝しております。（イニエスタ選手に向かって）どうもありがとうございます。
これからヴィッセル神戸、そしてＪリーグでますます活躍、リードしていってくれると思いますし、彼のプレーを見たい、あるいは哲学、取り組む姿勢というものが、サッカーをやっている若者だけではなく、日本全体に本当に大きな影響を与えてくれるのではないかなということで、私も本当に期待をしております。
最後に、おそらくヴィッセル神戸で選手の集大成ということ、そしてヴィッセル神戸に対するコミットという大きな決断をしてくれましたアンドレス イニエスタに敬意を表するとともに、またチームがアジアNo.1チームに成長していくことを誓いまして、私の方からのお話とさせていただきたいと思います。本日はありがとうございました」

Everyone, thank you for joining us today in the midst of the Coronavirus pandemic and state of emergency. Also, thank you to everybody participating online.
Three years ago, in May, world football’s superstar, Andres Iniesta made the decision to join Vissel Kobe. At the time, we spoke about not coming to Japan just as a player, but to create a new legacy through Kobe that extends to Japan and all throughout Asia. With this in mind, and I am sure he had offers from all over the world, the decision was made to join Vissel Kobe.
It was a three-year deal, but today I can announce that Vissel Kobe and Andres Iniesta have agreed to a two-year extension on his current contract. More than just an ordinary two-year extension, I believe this is a sign of intent from Andres Iniesta that he will be a leading figure in the project to make Vissel Kobe the number one club in Asia. As I mentioned earlier, he is a legend of the world, who has achieved so much success with both FC Barcelona and the Spanish national team that you can barely count them all. The fact that this man has chosen to continue to play here I think has a great meaning for Japanese football. He led us in winning the Emperor’s Cup, as well as a semifinal finish in the AFC Asian Champions League. Seeing him continue to play despite carrying an injury really moved me. I think it really showed his leadership and his character as a human being.
At the moment, not just Vissel Kobe, but many football clubs are facing a dire financial situation. Within these circumstances, I think it shows his character once again, that he has agreed to a considerable compromise regarding financial figures. I am very grateful for that. Thank you.
I think that he will continue to play an active role in leading Vissel Kobe and the J.League. I believe his play, his philosophy, and his approach will make an impact not only on young people who play football, but on Japanese society as a whole.
Finally, I would like to express my commitment to helping this team become the number one club in Asia as Andres has committed to this project and this club. Thank you very much.

「『こんにちは、皆さん（日本語で挨拶）』。3年前に、ここ、東京でエキサイティングなプロジェクトを発表しました。当時もお伝えしたように、この新たな挑戦は、私と私の家族にとって、本当に大きな一歩でした。三木谷会長が、このプロジェクトを始動するにあたって、私に信頼をおいてくださったこと。そして3年経った今も、変わらず信頼を示してくれている事に感謝しています。
この三年間、苦しく大変な時期もありましたが、共に乗り越えてきました。同時に、クラブ史上初のタイトルだったり、ACLの出場だったり、本当に共に歴史を築いてこれたと思っています。ヴィッセル神戸の関係者、チームメイト、そしてファンの皆様、愛情とリスペクトを持って自分をファミリーの一員として迎えてくださった事を、本当に感謝しています。今日は私にとって特別な日です。
このプロジェクトに引き続き関わっていける事に大きなモチベーションを感じています。自分にとって、周りから信頼されている。大切にしてもらえていると感じる事が、何よりも大事です。新たな挑戦は、まだまだ続きますが、自分が3年前にここに来た時に感じた熱い思いと同じ思いで、この挑戦に挑み続けたいです。本当に、まだ2年間プロジェクトに関わり続ける事ができる事にわくわくしています。そして、私と私の家族を代表して、神戸と、日本の皆さんに感謝申し上げたいです。愛情と、リスペクトをもって皆さんがおもてなしをしてくださった事で、本当に自分達にとってこの場所が第二の故郷となりました。

Hello, everyone. It was three years ago here in Tokyo that an exciting project was announced. As I said at the time, this challenge was a major step for both me and my family. President Mikitani trusted me when launching this project. And I thank him, that three years later on, he still has this same trust in me. In these three years, we faced some difficult moments, but we overcame them together. At the same time, from celebrating the club’s first title to the first appearance in the AFC Champions League, we were able to make history for this club as well. To the Vissel Kobe staff, teammates, and fans, I thank you from the bottom of my heart for making me a part of the family with so much love and respect. This is a very special day for me. I am very motivated to continue with this project. For me, the feeling of trust and unity are more important than anything else. It will be a new challenge from here, but my passion and desire are as strong as when I arrived three years ago. I am excited to take this on for an additional two years. On behalf of myself and my family, I want to thank everyone in Kobe and in Japan for treating us with such love and respect. This has really become a second home for us. Finally, I think it is a difficult time for all of us right now, but I think if we keep the right energy we can overcome this situation together. Thank you.

Q.契約延長の一番の理由と、今後プロジェクトのために成し遂げたい事はなんですか

「自分にとって一番大事だった事は、信頼してもらえている事でした。自分が大切にしてもらえていると感じられた事が、契約を延長する上で重要なキーポイントでした。そして、まだ自分自身、モチベーションとワクワク感を感じていて、このプロジェクト、ヴィッセル神戸のために自分のベストを出すためのモチベーションを感じ続けている事も重要でした。
ここからは、本当に、さらに自分のコンディションを落とさずに、チームのためにより一層貢献できるように日々頑張っていきたいですし、そのために過ごしていきたいです」
Q. Can you tell us the main reason for your contract extension and what you are most hoping to achieve with this project?
Iniesta
The most important thing for me was to feel the trust. I felt that I was being appreciated and that was the most important thing for me when deciding to extend my contract. I still feel motivated to give my best to Vissel and to this project, so I am excited for the future. My aim now is to maintain a high level of fitness for the team and to play my part in the team’s success.
Q.3年間一緒に活動されて、イニエスタ選手に対して1番感心したことを教えてください

「当然、マエストロと言われるぐらいの世界No.1のテクニックとサッカー頭脳というのは、もう予想をはるかに上回るものだったと思いますが、それ以上に利他の精神といいますか、チームを思いやる、そしてチームだけではなく周囲の人であったり、社会であったり、そういったものに対する思いやりがあります。
本当にエル・クラシコでレアル・マドリードのサポーターがスタンディングオベーションをする選手というのは、おそらくアンドレス（イニエスタ選手）だけだと思うのですけれども、その意味が本当によくわかるなと思います。
これによってヴィッセル神戸のステータスが上がったということ以上に、Ｊリーグに対する世界的な認知も上がったと思いますし、キャリア前半で有望な選手が日本に来てプレーをしたいという流れも彼が果たした大きな貢献なのではないのかなと思っています」
Q. After working together for three years, what has impressed you most about Andres Iniesta?
Mikitani
The man is often referred to as a Maestro, so clearly his technique with a football is second to none and his mind for the game far exceeded my expectations, but I think what really impressed me is his altruistic way of thinking. He thinks of the team, of the people around him, and others in society.
I think Andres is one of the few players to receive a standing ovation from Real Madrid fans at the El Clasico, and I am no longer surprised by it.
I think more than elevating the status of Vissel Kobe, he has managed to raise the awareness of the J.League to the world stage. I think he has also been influential in convincing young a promising players to come to Japan in the earlier stages of their careers.
Q.この3年間でイニエスタ選手はヴィッセル神戸だけでなく、日本のサッカーにも大きな影響を及ぼしてきたと思うのですが、今後の2年間を含め5年間で、日本のサッカーに何を残していきたいですか
イニエスタ選手
「自分に残せるものは、自分が全力でピッチで表現したものを、ファンの皆さんや、メディアの皆さんに、語り継いでいけるような、そんなピッチでの表現を残していければと思っています。自分のモチベーションは、自分にできる最高のプレーをする事で、そのために日々のトレーニングを今も続けていますし、これからも長く続けていければと思っています。
ここから、さらにヴィッセル神戸を強くしていく挑戦は続きますが、自分は小さい目標にはモチベーションを感じず、大きな目標を勝ち取りたい性格です。そのために、このチームをさらに高みに連れていくための貢献をできる限りしていきたいと思っています。また、ヴィッセル神戸のファンの皆様、日本のサッカーファンの皆様にも、改めて自分を歓迎してくださった事に感謝しています。皆さんが応援してくれる気持ちに応えていかなければいけない事は、ひしひしと感じています。そのためにも、今後も努力を続けていきたいです」
Q. In the past three years you have not only influenced Kobe, but all of Japanese football. With two additional years, which will bring your total to five years here, what are you hoping to leave behind?

What I can try to leave behind is what I give on the pitch and have the fans and the media something worth talking about. My motivation is to play my highest level of football and that is what I work on achieving every day. I hope to continue doing this as we take on the challenge of making Vissel an even more competitive team. My motivation is not driven by small challenges, but rather by big goals. That is what I will strive to do and I would like to take this opportunity to thank the fans of Kobe and the football fans here in Japan for the warm welcome I have received. I can feel your expectations and it is my job to meet them. That is why I must continue to work hard every day.
Q.2年間の延長は2023年シーズンの終了までとなるのかと、現役最後の地を神戸にする可能性についてはいかがでしょうか

「皆さんもご存知の通り、いつまでもサッカー選手として、ピッチでプレーし続ける事はできませんので、やはりいつか終わりは来るものです。ただ、このプロジェクトを始める時に、自分と家族は大きな一歩を踏みだし、大きなモチベーションを感じてやってきましたし、これからも続けていきたいと感じています。その中で、もちろんここで自分のサッカー選手としてのキャリアを最後まで続けたいと思っています。サッカー選手としてだけでなく、今後もこのクラブと、色々な形で関わり続けていきたいと思っていますし、それが私の希望でもあります。
3年前に大きなモチベーションと意欲を感じてこのプロジェクトに関わりました。それは、今も感じています。ただ、そのモチベーションが薄れてきたと感じた時には、自分が一番最初に言うと思います。ただ、それまでは、ピッチでこのクラブに関わっていきたいと思いますし、その意欲を持って、このまま続けていきたいです」
Q. Does the two-year extension mean you will be playing until the end of 2023? What does it mean for you that Kobe might be your last stop in your playing career?

As you all know, it is not possible to play football forever so there will be a time when this all comes to an end. However, when I started this project I took a big step with my family and I arrived with very high motivation, so that is something I still want to continue. I want to make this my last stop as a professional footballer and I want to maintain relations with this club in various ways. That is my hope. I arrived three years ago with high motivation for this project, but the day I stop feeling this kind of motivation I will be sure to say so. Until that day I want to remain a part of this club as a player and I want to continue with this same drive.
