Rakuten Announces Signing of David Villa to Vissel Kobe
Tokyo, December 1, 2018 - Rakuten Vissel Kobe, Inc., a Rakuten Group company, today announced that New York City FC forward David Villa has signed with Vissel Kobe. He will leave the United States Major League Soccer team to join the J.League club.
Villa stood out as a leading scorer in both the 2008 UEFA European Football Championship and the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa. Recognized for his scoring prowess, he is the all-time top goal scoring player in the history of Spain’s national team, with a total of 59 goals throughout his career on the team.
By adding Villa to its roster, Vissel Kobe aims to build on the foundation laid with the additions of Lukas Podolski and Andrés Iniesta, as it takes another step towards the club’s goal of becoming the number one club in Asia.
