昨日は、ロサンゼルス地方を襲った豪雨のため、試合が中止になりました。トロントFC戦は、ロサンゼルスFC戦からの修正を試す相手だっただけに残念な1日となりました。本日は引続き、強い雨が降ったり止んだりの天候での練習でした。本日はアップ後、サーキットトレーニングを実施し、強めのトレーニングとなりました。

最後は3チームに分かれゲームを実施しました。監督から「意図のあるプレーを」と声をかけられ、選手は頭と体を両方使う練習となりました。

練習後には、ポドルスキ選手と高卒ルーキーの伊藤選手がシュート練習をしていました。ペナルティエリアの外から左足で放たれる強烈なシュートは、次々とゴールに吸い込まれていきました。手の先をかすめても、止まらないシュートはさすが世界の頂点を知る選手と見ているスタッフもうなるほどでした。

伊藤選手は練習後、悔しくて涙を見せる場面も。ポドルスキ選手は、始めは何で泣いているんだという表情をしていましたが、事情が分かると、肩を抱き、「もっと強くなれる」と声をかけていました。

悔しい気持ちが、成長の源泉になります。今日止められなかったシュートが、次の日に触れるようになり、半年後には、止められるようになるかもしれません。若手の成長も目が離せません。

明日は、5日の試合に向けた最後のトレーニングになります。

The previous day was an unfortunate one, with heavy rain leading to the cancellation of a scheduled preseason match against Toronto FC. The Vissel players had prepared for a difficult opponent with the intention of making adjustments from the match against LAFC. Nonetheless, training resumed the next day with rain still continuing to pour. The circuit training session of the day turned out to be a more physically demanding one, with unused energy still available from the previous day.

The squad was broken up into three teams in the end, with the coaches telling the players to “play with intention.” After training, Lukas Podolski could be seen testing recent high school graduate Genta Ito in goal. The German World Cup winner unleashed one venomous shot after another, much to the dismay of the young Ito, who struggled to deny his more experienced opponent. The young goalkeeper was visibly upset with his inability to stop the imposing strikes, but Podolski reassured the youngster that he “can still improve.”

The shots he cannot stop today may be shots he will deny sometime down the line. For a young player, it is important to soak up the experience and learn. Just a few days remain on this preseason tour. Tomorrow will mark another day of training before a match against Orange County SC the following day.
