Recovered from Earthquake Prepared for J.League

On 17 January, the Great Hanshin Awaji Earthquake wreaked havoc on Kobe. Although training resumed in Kurashiki, the team had to endure a difficult lifestyle as they travelled to different temporary training grounds in Kobe for daily training.
With 5 wins and 10 losses, the team ended 12th in the first stage of the JFL.
With the arrival of Akihiro Nagashima and Masahiro Wada plus the added strength of foreigners Bickel (Switzerland), Jonsson (Sweden), Ziad (Tunisia) and Ederson (Brazil), the 2nd stage was a great improvement, with 13 wins and 2 losses.
The team achieved a respectable 6th place at the end of the season with 18 wins and 12 losses overall.
After beating established J. League teams Shimizu S-Pulse and Jubilo Iwata in the 75th Emperor's Cup, Vissel Kobe enjoyed rousing support.
Everybody, including manager Stuart Baxter, and the supporters, set their sights on promotion to the J.League.
In the 75th Emperor's Cup, some inspired play from Ziad led the team to the quarter final.
The debut of Vissel Kobe proper was in the Great Hanshin Awaji Earthquake Sister City Charity Match (vs. Rio de Janeiro).
Locally-born Akihiro Nagashima joined in mid-season.
