ヴィッセル神戸の2019シーズンの幕開けはアメリカのロサンゼルスで始まりました。試合相手はコロンバス・クルーSCとの対戦。相手もまだキャンプインして間もないことから、お互いにイーブンの状態でした。

神戸に新しく加入したビジャ選手、初瀬選手、西選手がスタメンデビュー。イニエスタ選手、ビジャ選手、本日キャプテンを務めるポドルスキ選手が揃ってスタメン起用されました。神戸の2019年の最初のシュートはビジャ選手のヘディングでした。惜しくも枠に飛ばせず、前半はビジャ選手のシュート一本に終わりました。

前半は田中選手、ポドルスキ選手の両サイドからの仕掛けが何度か見られましたが、決定的なチャンスには至りませんでした。ポドルスキ選手は、ペナルティエリア付近でボールを奪われ、自陣まで相手を追いかけボールを奪い返す姿勢を見せるなど、気迫のこもったプレーを見せていました。

後半はメンバーをガラッと入れ替え、山口選手が神戸デビューを飾りました。前半に比べ後半の方がボールを支配する展開となり、ペナルティエリア付近の仕掛けを多く見せていました。中でも右サイドの藤谷選手とウエスクレイ選手が起点となりチャンスを生み出していました。

中坂選手のシュートがポストに当たり、そのこぼれ球をウェリントン選手がシュートをし、相手DFがゴールライン手前でクリアされたシーンが今日最も得点に迫った場面でした。

結果的には相手の枠内シュートを0に押さえ、神戸がボールを支配する展開となりました。フアンマ監督は試合後、「特徴的なサッカーが見せられたのでは」の質問に「自分達がボールを相手コートで支配をするというゲームは見せられたと思う。ただ、少し効率的ではなかった。ゴールを奪うチャンスがあったにも関わらず活かせなかったことで、試合を難しくしてしまった」と振り返っていました。

まだ、17日の始動から11日目。この試合で何かを判断できるわけではないですが、これからコンディションが上がっていき、連携を深める過程で、今年のサッカーの基盤が見えてきます。次の試合はLAFC戦となります。

The Vissel Kobe 2019 season marked its start in Irvine, California. The first opponent of the preseason was Columbus Crew SC of the MLS. It was an evenly matched encounter between two sides that had both just started their respective preseasons.

The trio of David Villa, Ryo Hatsuse, and Daigo Nishi made their starting debuts for the club. Leading the team onto the pitch was captain Lukas Podolski, while marquee summer signing Andres Iniesta also played from the start.

David Villa had the first opportunity for his team, but his headed attempt following a well-worked Vissel set piece was off the mark. Junya Tanaka and Podolski used the width of the field to attack, but the most remarkable scene for the latter came when he chased down an opponent to win back the ball following an attack.

With the match still scoreless at the half, head coach Juan Manuel Lillo fielded a completely new eleven in the second half, including new signing Hotaru Yamaguchi. Vissel enjoyed much more of the possession in the second half, with Wescley and So Fujitani creating chances in and around the opponent penalty box.

The best chance of the match fell to Vissel when Yuya Nakasaka’s strike came off the opponent post. Wellington did well to react before his opponents, but his effort was cleared on the line by the Columbus defender.

The match ended as it began with a scoreless draw, but Vissel managed to hold the opponent to zero shots on goal. Asked on his team’s new distinct style of football, coach Lillo replied: “I think we were able to play more with the ball in the opponent half, but we need to be more clinical in front of goal. We made it difficult on ourselves by not converting our opportunities.”

With just eleven days having passed since the official start of the season, Vissel still has plenty of room to grow. Vissel will next face LAFC on the 31st (Thursday) at 19:00 local time (12:00 on Friday in Japan). The match will be aired live on Rakuten TV.
